United States Coast Guard licensed and insured since 1996, Captain Tom provides more than a decade of experience guiding fishermen in the coastal waters of Kachemak Bay and Cook Inlet. Skilled in the use of navigation electronics, GPS, Radar, and Marine Radio, he knows how to find the fish! According to Tom, “After hundreds of trips with the right equipment, the ocean floor reads like a detailed road map. Full of landmarks, it offers clear clues to locate my goal: Excellent Alaska Halibut Fishing for all my clients!

Halibut Hunters Charters is a family fishing operation! Captain Tom mans the helm, finds the fish, and provides expert fishing instruction. Deckhanding for his dad since age 10, 16-year old son Jack baits hooks, gaffs and nets fish, pulls anchor, and assists the fishing crew on board in every way possible. Always ready with smiles, wife Rachel is the “guide on the side”, managing the books and the bookings, while 10-year old daughter Kaylynn applies the “spit n’ polish” to keep the boat clean and tidy for each day’s trip. Day’s end often finds Grandpa and Grandma Bunnell meeting the boat, ready to take pictures of the daily catch, and to cheer for the biggest fish.

Alaska Halibut Fishing
The Fishing

Alaskan Halibut are fished off the bottom, usually between 40 and 250 feet of water. The daily limit is 2 per fisherman. You may catch more, but you can only take two home. “Keeping your hook baited and down fishing at all times is my top priority, so you’re ready to take on that big bite when it hits!”

Alaskan King Salmon and Alaskan Silver Salmon are fished by trolling with downriggers, using artificial tackle and/or bait. Watching the rod tip suddenly bend, and seeing a silvery splash as these fighters break the water, is a magnificent thrill, topped off by the big moment when your salmon is netted and brought aboard!

Halibut Hunters Charters offers three different Alaska Fishing Adventures:

Alaska Halibut/Salmon Combo - Kings and Silvers in Season
